Why are my orchid root tips black?

Black root tips are a sign of overwatering/root rot. When the roots get too much water, they can’t get enough oxygen, which turns them black. If you see this happening, cut back on the watering and try to correct the problem. Black root tips can also be a symptom of fungal infection.
