What to do with an orchid after the flowers fall off?

Once the flowers on an orchid have fallen off, the orchid will start to produce new blooms. To help the orchid produce more blooms, you can remove the top part of the old flower spike. Use sharp scissors to cut the stem just below a node; nodes are the bumps along the side of the spike. The orchid will create an offshoot on the same spike.

An orchid that loses its flowers is still perfectly healthy, like a rose bush that loses its roses only to grow them back later. When an orchid loses its flowers, it focuses its growth on its leaves and roots instead.
