What time of year do orchids go dormant?

Orchids go dormant in fall and winter. During this period they need less water and fertilizer. Don’t worry: this is normal. It’s a good idea to stop fertilizing about six weeks before your orchid’s dormancy period begins, so it can gradually adjust. If the orchid is healthy, its leaves will stay green throughout this period. Come spring, it will produce new flower spikes.
