How many stems should my orchid have?

A healthy orchid has one stem. To be clear, the stem is the part where the leaves meet the roots; new leaves come out the top, and roots come out the side. A flower spike is not a stem. An orchid growing a keiki (baby orchid) may grow a new stem from its existing stem, in which case you should wait until it’s big enough to cut away before doing so.
