How do you split orchids?
Orchids split by creating keikis of two kinds: from the flower spike, and from the base (stem). Wait until the keiki is large enough to support itself and has a few roots of a few inches’ length, as well as healthy-looking leaves. If it’s a flower spike keiki, cut the flower spike a couple inches below it. If it’s a basal keiki, wait a little longer until you can cleanly access the keiki to cut it. Use sharp, sanitized scissors.
