How do I know if my orchid is blooming?

The easiest way to tell if your orchid is blooming is to look for a new flower spike. The spike will be long and thin, and the flowers at the top of it will be in various stages of development, from buds to fully open flowers. Once the flowers have all opened, the spike will start to die back after a few months (or longer with good care).
