Can orchids be planted outside?

We recommend against planting orchids outside. Although some species can tolerate outdoor conditions in temperate regions, most orchids will not thrive in direct sunlight and will die quickly. They’re tropical and grow in areas with lots of shade, so unless you can provide those conditions, grow them indoors instead. There are a few exceptions, like the hardy Dendrobiums, but for the most part orchids should be kept inside where you can control their environment.
